Bagan
Bagan is a historically and culturally significant ancient city located in central Myanmar, on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady River. It served as the capital of the Pagan Kingdom from the 9th to the 13th century, a golden era during which over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas, and monasteries were constructed. Today, more than 2,000 of these structures remain, scattered across a vast plain, making Bagan one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. In 2019, it was officially recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
