- Myanmar Tea
Myanmar Tea is one of the most iconic and widely consumed drinks in Myanmar. Found in every tea shop across the country, it is usually strong black tea served either plain or mixed with evaporated milk and condensed milk for a creamy, sweet taste. Drinking Lahpet Yay is more than just refreshment — it’s a social and cultural tradition, where people gather at tea shops to chat, relax, or discuss daily matters. Unsweetened versions are also commonly served for free in homes and restaurants as a gesture of hospitality.
Ingredients
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1–2 tsp strong black tea leaves (Assam or local Burmese tea)
- 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk (adjust to taste)
- 2 tbsp evaporated milk (optional, for extra creaminess)
- Sugar (optional, if you want it sweeter)

How to Make?
To make Myanmar tea, start by brewing strong black tea by pouring boiling water over the tea leaves and letting it steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Strain the tea into a cup. Add sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk to the tea, stirring well to combine. Taste and add sugar if you prefer it sweeter. The result is a smooth, creamy, and sweet tea with a bold tea flavor, perfect served hot or poured over ice for a refreshing iced milk tea. This style of tea is a staple in Myanmar tea shops and an everyday favorite for many.
