- Tamarind Juice
Tamarind Juice is a refreshing traditional drink made by soaking tamarind pulp in water and sweetening it with sugar or jaggery. Sometimes a pinch of salt is added to enhance the flavor. Served chilled, this tangy and slightly sweet beverage is especially popular during the hot summer months. It’s known not only for its refreshing taste but also for its cooling and digestive properties, making it a favorite street-side drink across Myanmar.
Ingredients
- ½ cup tamarind pulp (soaked and strained)
- 4 cups water
- ½ cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- Ice cubes

How to Make?
To make Myanmar tamarind juice, start by soaking tamarind pulp in warm water for about 10–15 minutes to soften it. Then, strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to extract the smooth tamarind liquid, discarding the solids. In a pitcher, combine the tamarind juice with fresh water and add sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Taste and adjust the sweetness as needed. Serve the tamarind juice chilled over ice cubes. This drink is wonderfully tangy, slightly sweet, and very refreshing—perfect for beating the heat in Myanmar’s tropical climate.
